Gambians are urged to continue respect and observe Coronavirus pandemic laid down rules and regulations to avert what looks like second wave of coronavirus, as the country already detected new UK’s Covid-19 variant in the country.
Speaking during a meeting with lawmakers, director of health promotion and education Modou Njie urged Gambians to change their attitude towards covid-19 restriction given by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization as cases begin to increase.
“Communication is the key area to ensure that people are aware also changes of attitude with regards to certain prevention. That is wearing of facemasks and observing physical distancing,” he said.
He stated that people got the information and they have the understanding but to change their behavior towards the covid-19 restriction is a big challenge for the Ministry of Health.
He confirmed that changing is a challenge to many people as it requires time, energy and resource to do that.
Regarding communication, he disclosed that at the Ministry of Health “We are doing series of activities with regards to communication and we have a representative committee at the regional levels with focus rules and regulations at the lumos,” he added.
The Ministry of Health will soon continue its TV programs where experts will be invited to discuss topic related to Covid-19 to create more awareness.
“We are trying to update the local structures to remind people wherever they are in regards to social distancing and wearing of facemasks. The new report indicates that many people don’t want to put on facemasks as they claim of suffocation, while some said they have the feeling that Covid-19 is gone but we want them to believe covid-19 still existing,” he added.
