Darboe Calls on Supporters to Ignore Opponents Insult

Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) has called on his family members and supporters to ignore opponents who are currently bend on a insult sphere to insult his personality.

The UDP Leader was addressing faithful members of his Party on Friday, where he also called on all Gambians to join hands and strengthen the fight against drugs peddling in the country.

His reactions came barely few days after comedians Baba Jah, Ahmed Gitteh among other supporters of the National People’s Party (NPP) embarked on throwing words of insult meant to tarnish the image and integrity of the UDP Party Leader.

“I want to appeal to you not to make any reply to those insulting me. This is how they have been brought up in their home and we are not brought up in that way,” Lawyer Darboe appealed to families and supporters.

He added: “Please do not be offended by anyone harping insults on me or making any foolish statements and bickering against me. Show them to understand that it is the country that is our concern not them.”

According to him, the situation of the country is becoming worrisome as drug traffickers want to make the country their base, arguing that Gambia has never been a base to drug traffickers during the past regimes.

“Even during the times of Yahya Jammeh those involved in the drugs issues were all arrested. But unfortunately, today those involved in the cocaine issue are said to have fled the country. We wouldn’t say the drummer’s foot is on the beating stick but the beating stick must be picked up,” Darboe stated.

The UDP Party Leader expressed his disappointment to people wanting to make The Gambia a transit hub for drugs trafficking, arguing that very soon the country will become a pariah state if efforts are not exerted to curb the situation.

“If we allow this country to be used as a drug trafficking centre very soon the country will be regarded as a pariah state and if this happens the whole world will desert us. This is going to bring more hardship for the people of this country because drug lord don’t just jump into a country, they do their studies to know whether they can operate in that country or not,” Lawyer Darboe adduced before his supporters.

He also expressed his fears to the latest catchment of cocaine in town, arguing that even if it is going to be three or four kilos of cocaine may slip its ways to the youths of this country.

The doyen politician called on Gambian to entrust the country in the hands of politicians who will protect the interest of youths rather than those who are willing to make the country a drug center.

He continued that over two decades of his practicing as a lawyer he has never defended the cases of drug dealers even if they offer millions of Dalasis to him.

“I will never join people who defend drug dealers in court because I know the dangers of drugs. Drug money doesn’t worth a dime for me even if it means making millions for me,” UDP Party Leader disclosed.

He added that he refused to defend drug traffickers and drug dealers in court, “I equally refused to defend anyone involved in the abuse of children and women. I promised that I will never defend this group of offenders because I wish my country and its citizen’s well.”
