A prominent Imam Ratib of Njaba-Kunda village in the North Bank Region (NBR) frowned at President Adama Barrow’s Government for the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council actions especially during Imam Muhammed Lamin Touray’s tenure as the President.
Alhagie Seedy Muctarr Jaiteh the most respected religious personality in the NBR made this comment before our reporter where he blamed President, Adama Barrow led government for allowing few people within GSIC for illegally conducting congress and election.
He explained that former GSIC under Imam Touray’s over-stayed in power disqualified them to organized congress and election for new executive members to take-over the reign of the council.
According to Imam Jaiteh, Barrow Government disregard Majlis Sects in the country adding: “Majlis Sects played a big role for him (Barrow) to succeed former President Jammeh in the presidency seat”.
“Nobody can’t change our loyalty to Sheriff Sanusi Nano Hyhara as our leader. It is him we are seeing. It is him we will continue to rally behind unless Imams and Majlis Sects participated in GSIC congress/election based on transparency and fair play,” Imam Jaiteh explained.
Whether President Adama Barrow Government recognized us or not he added, we will continue to function as an Islamic organization in order to promote and propagate Islamic religion based on the teachings of Islam.
He refutes Imam Muhammed Lamin Touray’s recent media report that Rawdatul Majaalis never inform them about the formation of their organization which he (Imam Jaiteh) described the allegation as a misleading information to public.
“When we formed our organization we wrote to GSIC under Imam Touray and his former team. But their respond was: “Who are you people? We still didn’t give-up and we wrote a letter to them to explain whom we are, our objectives, aims among others,” Imam Jaiteh explained.
Imam Jaiteh clearly stated that it is Barrow as The Gambian leader who is supporting them (GSIC) while pretending in other side of the coin that he is with us (Rawdatul Majaalis).
