National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) in collaboration with the World Bank has donated 30,000 facemasks, sanitary materials, water buckets to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and Amaanah for the fight against the spread of coronavirus in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Niani Juwara, Managing Director of NAWEC said: “the donation is a support from World Bank as a Covid-19 response fund through NAWEC to fight against Covid-19.”
He said the donation is part of the company sanitary project, which provides water facilities for NAWEC like drainage of some additional boreholes to update and rehabilitate water facilities.
Mr Juwara urged people to always adhere to the WHO and MoH guidelines at all time to prevent the rapid spread of the disease, noting that health delivery is everyone’s affair even NAWEC is not an exceptional.
He assured that the support will be a continue process as it is part of complementing government efforts to combat the virus especially now that many countries are facing the second wave of Covid-19, which makes adhering to the preventive measures important.
Adama Jamba Jobe, deputy permanent secretary of MoBSE said: “the materials will effectively help in eradicating covid-19, second wave is underway government alone cannot meet the needs of the people so having such gesture from NAWEC is remarkable.”
He said if the students are protected the country will be safe as children are more vulnerable to such issues, while he thanked the donors for the gestures and assured them of proper usage of the materials.
Omar Jammeh, representative of Amannah, expressed his profound gratitude to the donors and described the gestures as Sunnah in term of supporting people when they are in need of support.
