Rampant knife stabbing linked to use of hard drugs

By: Nyima Sillah

Rampant knife stabbing and other dubious criminalities are linked to drug usage among a good number of the youths in the country – as many were said to be out of their senses after taking such hard drugs during committing crimes like stabbing.

“One of the factors that lead to the issue of stamping is the use of drugs and recently “we have seen our young people going into the use of drugs,” Police spokesman Lamin Njie told The Voice exclusively.

He lamented about how parents are bringing up their children – saying despite some parents are trying their best to give a proper upbringing to their children but that some are careless because many of the youths arrested for crimes related to drugs are not under proper home training.

He added: “a lot of people are trying as much as possible to ensure that they control their children’s and put them on the right track but also we have some good number of young people that are out there and somehow they lack parental discipline.”

“From our experience we even have some of them whom during our patrol are arrested on minor offence and when we call their parents to come and set them on bail, we realize that they are not under any parental control which is also affecting a lot of youths because some of them lack parental care completely and that lead most of them into ghetto life,” Superintended Njie continued.

He said many of them are arrested when they are seriously intoxicated with drugs and that many of them were found with what he called small arms.

Drugs are definitely impairing the judgment of people and also when people get intoxicated, they hardly differentiate things, so little misunderstanding that comes between them might degenerate to actual fight and before you know they have stamp each other, he said.
