The Gambia cabinet is expected to look into an investigation report conducted around the circumstances of dozens of Gambian girls who were repatriated last year from Lebanon.
The 38 girls were repatriated following their protest at the Gambian consulate in Lebanon that sparked public reaction.
The taskforce constituted the National Agency Against Trafficking in Person, National Human Rights Commission, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Women and Children and law agencies will investigate and come up with a finding and recommendations.
Speaking at the launching of 2021 legal year in Banjul, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dawda Jallow, told the gathering that recently, as an attorney general and minister of justice, he has directed the establishment of a taskforce to investigate and come up with finding recommendations of the recently repatriated 38 returnees from Lebanon.
According to him taskforce reports look into trafficked for the purpose of domestic servitude and look into the circumstances of the departure of the girls from The Gambia and their stay in Lebanon.
He disclosed that the national human rights commission submitted in the findings and recommendations which are now before the cabinet for consideration.
