The Gambian Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, has reiterated his gratitude to Cuba for the solidarity the country provides to the people of this West African nation, in a meeting with the Caribbean island’s ambassador here, Rubén G. Abelenda. The holder stands out the humanitarian work carried out by the Cuban Medical Brigade (CMB) in caring for populations in the different regions of his country, and expressed his gratitude for the recent granting of two free scholarships to young Gambian doctors to study specialties in the Greater of the Antilles.
At the meeting this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, Samateh and Abelenda discussed widely the possibilities of increasing cooperation in different fields of medicine, and in the fight against the Covid19 pandemic.
They both agreed that only with the collaboration between nations can the deadly epidemic that is currently plaguing humanity be destroyed.
The Antillean diplomat, who was accompanied by the head of the CMB Dr. Anaris Martha Odio, confirmed to his host the determination of his government and compatriots to continue cooperating with the Gambia, in particular, and with Africa, in general, peoples twinned with Cuba by blood, historical and cultural ties.
The Caribbean island has maintained the CMB in this African state for more than two decades. The brigade is made up of doctors, specialists, bachelors and technicians, as well as professors who teach at the Banjul University School of Medicine.
