Gambians have raised concerns on how credible the Independent Electoral Commission will conduct the December 2021 presidential elections in The Gambia amid of delays in voter registration.

Commenting on the issue, Amadou Tamba residence of Sabiji said “IEC should definitely update the public on position of voter registration. Everyone is anxiously waiting to vote and hear result of the election due in December 2021. They still have many things to put in place, so if they keep on wasting time, no good thing will be done before the election and this might cause issues during election.”

“If IEC wants to conduct credible election, this is the right time to put all things on board so that in few months’ time they will be working on other things different from voter registration, as  Election process cannot be done within three months or five months,” he noted.

Besides that, he said IEC got all the time since last election up to last year yet no good update is given to the public and if this should continue, it will not tell well.

“If IEC is still on hold with the registration, when will they start or finish public sensitization on paper balloting which is one of key issues that need to be solved,” said Lamin Sanneh.

Aji Amie Yabou expressed her disappointment over similar issue. She said “It is high time that Independent Electoral Commission put things on the right path and clear our doubts because election process is a concern for all.”
