Augustus Prom has finally promised to audit the reports of The Gambia Competition Consumer’s Protection Commission (GCCPC), after some backlogs.
Ebrima Jadama, an official from Augustus Prom told lawmakers that the submission of a draft financial statement is for the year ended 31st December 2018 and 2019 respectively. This financial statement has been received on the 10th of February 2021, “for that being the case due to timing issue we recommending conduct of the audit within one month starting from the 16th of February 2021.“
Halifa Sallah, chairperson of the committee said they have succeeded many enterprises, adding “but still matching on with the competition commission, the competition commission is a very important commission established by an act to promote competition in supplying goods and services.”
According to him submission is the starting point of the exercise, presentation follows and consideration next, 2015, 2016, and 2017 went through the processes but 2017 is submitted and presentation still pends, 2018 and 2019 is having activity report no financial statement.
Amadou Ceesay, GCCPC CEO said: “reports for 2015, 2016 and 2017 are submitted over years ago, we have 2015, 2016, 2017 due. In our last sitting the national audit office did indicate that there are backlog and unable to start the auditing process’’
He added that they engage Augustus Prom to start the work, receiving a letter that it will be done with months that’s why they insist one of them to present with them.
