GIA explains Covid-19 rules at airport

Officials of the Gambia International Airline (GIA) have explained Covid-19 rules to parliamentarians who are members of national assembly select committee on health.

In their ongoing visit to the disaster hotspot areas and hospitals to know the challenges confronting them in their various places of work and the hotspot areas, Ousman Sillah chairman of the committee and NAM for Banjul North stated that “as we are in the second pandemic and cases are surging which is a matter of concern and the airport been the main entry point to the country, we decided to visit to know the challenges in the airport as regarding containing of the spread of the coronavirus.

Jerreh Camara head of public health officer at the airport said the airport is very challenging since the place is under maintenance and the country is in the second wave of covid-19 and it is the time most travellers like to visit their families.

“When passengers dropped from the bus, they will find a public health office at the entrance with hand health thermometer to check their temperature and also hand sanitizer. There are posters also available as communication tool to ensure that there is this practice of social distancing,” he said.

He went on to explain their practice in the airport in this coronavirus pandemic period. According to him after the immigration process, travellers will have access to their bags while they will ask for their Covid-19 certificate and also to know the country they come from.

Anyone from the hotspot country supposed to go for mandatory quarantine and those that are not supposed to go for mandatory quarantine are the ones from country like Germany, Portugal and most of the Asian countries as they are not regarded as hotspot countries.”

According to him, the challenges they are facing is that some of these people play difficult when they boarded same flight and others are going for quarantine whiles others are not.
