The Gambia Madrasa Teachers’ Association for Development (GaMTAD) Sunday held its 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Abdourahman Islamic School, Daru Salaam in Faji-Kunda.
Speaking at the ceremony, Saikou BK President of GaMTAD congratulated the members for attending the meeting while he gave the background of the association which was formed in March 11, 2018.
The president assured members that his executive would remain committed in order to improve socio-economic status of the members through their membership contributions.
He explained that the birth of the organization emanated as a result of denial, thus, some certain benefits which qualified English teachers are benefitting but not applicable to qualified Arabic teachers under AMANA.
“As a result, we stood-up to fight our legitimate right even up to National Assembly level, as citizens we make sure the benefit that qualified English teachers are enjoying the same benefits are extended to us,” Manjang explained .
According to Manjang, through members’ collective efforts, the organization was finally succeeded in getting what they were fighting for with the help of the National Assembly, MoBSE and other institutions.
Since the formation of the organization, he disclosed, in March 2018, significant progress has been registered and the key among were forging partnership with NYC, Sanjally Bojang Foundation and Gambia College senior lecturers.
Meanwhile, Abubacarr Camara, Treasurer of the association said AGM Association is important because members of the forum meet and discuss the way forward about their association. He therefore urged members to always pay their membership contribution which he said will be the only way that will sustain their association.
At the end of the meeting, members unanimously re-elected the outgoing executive members under Saikou B.K. Manjang to re-run the affairs of the organization for another three years.
