Honorable Allagie Jawara vice chairperson of public enterprise has made issue clear to Gambia Maritime Administration board and management that the public enterprise exercise is not an ordinary exercise.
He made this clarification known to the administration’s board as they converged before the National Assembly public enterprise.
He went further to inform them of not been there only to answer questions and leave taking to consideration the section (109) of the constitution which empowers the committee like high court.“We have powers for people to go under order, affirmation and otherwise, but we don’t want to apply that”
He asked why is GMA requesting for subvention when their total income is D31,000,600 at the end of the year.
He said they want the institution to be real with them by giving the exact facts so that the committee will know the weaknesses of GMA.
Honorable Halifa Sallah chair of the committee noted that GMA supposed to monitor GPA but “how can you monitor effectively when you are being patronized?”
According to him GMA falls under a category of public enterprise, which is indispensable to ensure that Gambians benefits from its waterways.
After consultation the meeting was adjourned for further notice since four years reports were submitted.
Binta Jallow finance director said they did request for subsidy from government but they were subsidized twice that is 2008 and 2013
That is D1 million and D800,000 respectively but no reply as it was only GPA that gave them subvention of D2million.
