Ebrima Habibou Fatty, a Gambian author has launched his first book titled Ayeh Jii. The launching ceremony of the book was held at the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) premises, Banjul.
Commenting on the newly launched book, Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of National Center for Arts and Culture commended the author for his ability to put together the events surrounding the 2016 presidential elections as they unfold particularly the last four months of 2016 until the defeat of former president Yahya AJJ Jammeh till the relinquishing of mantle of leadership on 19th January, 2017.
DG Ceesay went further saying tha the book is like a diary of the important event which is about four years old which made it not yet a history book “but will be of historical value in future talking of 30, 40 years to come, historians and other people will get interested in the fall of Yahya Jammeh, the actions and personalities that contributed to the change of government in 2016.”
He added that writing a book is not an easy task hence it is not only writing behind publishing a book, “what keep writers going is the fact that they are putting certain aspect of Gambia life, culture, history, literature into writing for posterity, which is the only way to keep history.”
Ayeh Jii is a book of 36 pages published by Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation and it contains nine chapters which include wide publicity and the political impasse, the coalition victory, IEC counting error and Yahya AJJ Jammeh back-tracking, Senegal’s role in ending dictatorship in The Gambia, the relinquishing of the mantle of leadership by the ex-President Yahya AJJ Jammeh.
