Make 3D Company Limited in collaboration with Youth Empowerment Project has launched a MAKE IT 3D YOURSELF competition open for Gambian youth between 18-35 years old.
The competition seeks to build capacity of young Gambians entrepreneurs in 3D printing as an enhancement to their businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony, Fatou Juka Darboe, director of Make 3D Company Limited said Make 3D is the first and only 3D printing company in The Gambia and it is here to boost technological advancement.
She explained that 3D is a construction of three-dimensional object from a computer Aided Device Model, noting that “these objects are very complex and could be impossible to construct by hand.”
She went on that “the competition is open for all the young people in The Gambia from the age of 18-35 and at the end of the day the best business that is more economical viable that can incorporate 3D printer in their business will win 3D printer, 10 kilograms of filament and training package on how to use the 3D printer.”
“We want to provide access to 3D printing technology for Gambian youth, experts and institutions as well,” she said.
Ebrima Darboe, deputy permanent secretary Ministry of Information said the establishment of Make 3D Company is timely in the sense that it is launched at a time when the country is in the process of digitizing its economy.
Make it 3D yourself competition is in line with MOICI, especially in youth, women, empowerment using ICTs and promoting Technology driven social services provision, he added.
He revealed that, MOICI intends to establish innovation hubs across country in order to transform the Gambia into a regional ITC Hub and foster innovation among young people.
He went on that “in a competition there is always a winner and a loser and I would implore the competitors to see this as an opportunity to showcase their talent.”
