The Institute of Travel and Tourism of the Gambia (ITTOG) Tuesday launched a 9-month course on Event Management and Planning program and alongside orientated maiden 50 new students admitted for the course.
The admitted 50 students for the course were selected across the country and are sponsored through the YEP funded program.
The 50 students on YEP scholarship package will all benefit from the full payment of tuition fees while 15 of these students will be receiving a monthly stipend throughout their course duration.
Sheikh Tejan Nyang, head of school addressing the new opportune students, gave a brief background of the institute.
Commenting on the credibility of the institute, he said in past years lots of students from different parts of the world have graduated from the institute and lots of them are working in their different areas of specialisation in and outside the country.
He said the new students are fortunate to have received scholarships from YEP who will take care of them throughout the duration of their course.
The head of school therefore congratulated the chosen one for the course as “over 150 applicants applied but only 50 were selected,” he disclosed.
He encouraged the students to put their best towards achieving their goals, noting that they are not the best among lots but lucky ones to be chosen “and it is a big opportunity for you thus many are sitting at home and corner looking for this type of opportunity.”
Ngoneh Panneh, Adviser Tourism and Creative Industries at International Trade Center and Youth Empowerment Project congratulated the students and welcome them to the institute.
She encouraged them to make use of the opportunity of the scholarship to enable them reach their desire destination.
She however gave a brief overview of the course and the opportunities that goes along with it taking into consideration the importance of entrepreneurship in tourism and culture industry as relate to national development.
Lamin Bojang among others made a full presentation of the course which had started immediately.
