Honorable Hamat Bah has urged the supporters of National Reconciliation Party to remain firm and solid behind the candidature of President Adama Barrow in the 4th December presidential election as he reassured NRP unflinching support for President Barrow.
Honorable Bah, who is the Minister of Tourism and Culture, made the at his party’s biannual congress held in N’Gayen Sanjal in North Bank Region over the weekend.
“We will strengthen this government; we will stand firm in promoting democracy and good governance in this country. We know Adama Barrow is a democrat and we believe that he can move this country’s development forward. Working together with Adama Barrow will make a big value for the Gambian people. We will not wave our quest to move this country forward. When UDP was abandoned in 2006, we were there for them – the NRP – we never wavered,” he told the congress.
He added that “Our party’s support for Adama Barrow is unshakeable, we stand firm, we have our principle, we have our believe and we strongly believe that we can work with the NPP in those principles and those believes. I therefore call on all the supporters of NRP throughout the country to remain firm and solid behind the candidature of Adama Barrow come 4th December 2021.”
He therefore urged his party supporters to refrain from political insults and abuse and respect fellow opposition politician supporters and candidates.
“But in doing so, we must respect all players in the field. No opposition candidate or opposition supporter will be deprived of its rights and responsibility. No one will be maltreated; we will defend democracy wherever we are,” he urged.
He continued: “We want to put the politics of insult and abuse as history in The Gambia. Politics of issues and politics of development, politics of advancement will be agenda of every political party. I appeal to all my colleagues in the political arena to remain resolute [and] committed to the principle of democracy to make sure that this country remains peaceful.”
