Gaye Nyoro Skills Academy graduates 200 students

Gaye Nyoro Skills Academy in Brusubi has graduated 200 students in different skills under the theme: ‘The Role of Youth and Women in Socioeconomic Development.’

The graduation ceremony was held at the Qcity, Bijilo over the weekend.

The graduated students from various skills which included hairdressing, catering, tailoring, beauty and costumes were of two different batches – 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Speaking at the ceremony, Fatou Saine Gaye, founder of Gaye Nyoro said since the establishment of the school, the school has graduated 2,850 students and all are doing extremely well in their businesses.

She added that last year the school could not hold any graduation due to COVID-19 which is why two batches 2019 and 2020 were combined together for the graduation this year.

She pointed out that, Gaye Nyoro also has centers in Farafenni and Soma were several students are due for graduation, too, “the institution has not only attracted the attention of international donors but it has serve this nation and made it through the vision of the MoHERST.”

Gaye Nyoro skills academy, she said, is here for the youth, especially young women, as “Gaye nyoro is taking the youth off the streets and empowering them with skills.”

Madam Gaye urged graduands not to wait to be employed instead they should create employment for themselves and others.

Dr. Cherno Omar Barry, Board chairperson of Gaye Nyoro Skills Academy said education is crucial for the socio-economic development of any country therefore lack of it can lead to making incorrect choices in life.

Gaye Nyoro Skills Academy has become a “trailblazer in getting our girls off the street in The Gambia. 60% of every nation comprises youth and the youth unemployment rate is 25%, therefore having a skill is crucial,” he disclosed.

Dr. Barry encouraged the graduands to be independent “when you serve in small ways you will get more opportunities to serve in bigger ways.”

The guest speaker, Aji Kumba Daffeh, President of Treasure Women Warriors, motivates the students to be passionate in whatever they do in live saying women have roles to play in national development.

She, therefore, advised them to be more creative and add value to anything that might see as a waste.
