The Secretary General and Administrator of National Federation of Gambia UNESCO clubs has underscored the significance of partnering with schools to promote the values of National Commission for UNESCO and UNESCO Club concept to promote education through peace and culture.
Lamin Ceesay who was speaking in Kerewan on Friday during Spelling Bee Competition and Cultural Show organised by Kerewan Basic Cycle School in the north bank region stated that UNESCO’s approach does not target only certain number of its activities but considered full partners in major programs n the field of education, science, culture and communication.
He noted that human rights and dignity are starting point, while dialogue is use as a powerful tool to promote peace and cultural diversity to contribute to human development at all levels.
He added that it is the same spirit that guides UNESCO’s new integrated framework for action, which seeks to equip young women and men with knowledge, skills and values that will help them to live in peaceful and productive live.
Commenting on National Federation of Gambia UNESCO clubs, the Secretary General said a country that want to realize a meaningful development, progress and growth shall sow the seed of peace and uproot the seed of violence.
He uses the moment to call on parents to always find time to attend such gathering as it help them to assist their children in schools.
“Through culture we are governed by norms and customs, which are the pillars of any society. If these pillars are not properly followed in our society, our culture will resemble a perfume with no smell,” he stated.
He added that it is through culture people learn how to be better person in the society like living as brothers and sisters.
Saihou Jallow Regional Coordinator who doubled as teacher Coordinator of NATCOM and UNESCO club at Kerewan Basic Cycle School said the program is part of annual plan of activities that Kerewan Basic Cycle School organised to help students to showcase their academic talents and cultures.
The event targets pupils of grade 4 to 9 and it helps to assess the understanding of students on lessons taught.
