Mourners Pay Last Respect to Gibril Ceesay

Hundreds of mourners paid their last respect to Gibril Ceesay, a 34 years old native of Sanyang village, who was murdered on Monday March 15, 2021, by Ganna Sey, a Senegalese national residing in Sanyang.

The funeral also attracted state and local government officials including Minister of Information, Ebrima Sillah, Governor and Deputy Governor of West Coast Region, Lamin Sanneh and Musa Suso respectively, Members of Supreme Islamic Council, Officials of Brikama Area Council among other mourners.

Speaking at the funeral, Imam of Sanyang Bungkiling, Yahya Bah, called on the youths to keep the peace that the community is known for, adding that the community has witnessed damages to properties that will takes time to recover.

He call on them to bear the faith and allow those responsible to do their work and make sure that justice is served. Many speakers also send similar advises to the youths on the need to keep calm and allow the police to do their work.

Ceesay’s untimely murder has sparked huge protests, outrages and condemnation among youths of the village who went on rampaging and vantalising properties and other valuables belonging to the state and private businesses.

The protests targeted foreign fishermen including Senegalese fishermen accused   of series criminal issues that the police  have never investigate  or prosecute, alleging  that foreign fishermen are becoming too much involve in both verbal and physical abuses on natives that are never taken seriously by the police.

The Monday Protest lead to destruction of facilities including Sanyang Police Station, Nessim Fishmeal Factory, Senegalese boats, Mobile Shops and other businesses located at the Sanyang beach.
