Senior officials of Gambia and Mali are discussing inter-state transit trade barriers within the sub region, in Banjul with an objective to abolish non-tariff barriers and allow free movement of goods and people within the sub-region.
The Gambia have signed all ECOWAS Protocol as well as other countries, however there are hindrance to transit between the Gambia and Mali.
Meanwhile, a delegation of senior government officials of Mali are in Banjul to discuss transit barriers between the two countries.
The delegation first visited the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) where the team discussed with their Gambia counterpart about trade and transit of petroleum and general goods between the two countries.
The officials also consider seeking assistance of the GRA and Gam Petroleum to mark (colour) the petroleum bound for Mali and having memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Malian customs administration and the Gambia Revenue Authority,.
Also the officials discussed on having memorandum of understanding(MOU) between the ministry of Transport, Works, and infrastructure to commence transport services between Banjul and Bamako and also having memorandum between the Gambia ports Authority on possible cooperation in trade.
The team also visited the ministry of finance and Economic Affairs where they discussed with the minister Mambury Njie and also visited foreign affairs minister Hon Mamadou Tangara , where matters of improving bilateral relation were also discussed .
