Ambassadors for Peace visit to the community comes three days after Gibril Ceesay,30, was brutally killed by a man believed to be a Senegalese fisherman. He’s currently in police custody pending court hearing.

Speaking to Gambiana, Madame Awa Diallo, president of the group, said: “we are appealing to the people of Sanyang to please restore peace and exercise calmness because this is not a good image to Senegambia relationship.”

She denounced arson attack on the police station and the Mauritanian-owned fishmeal plant as well as attack on senegalses fishermen saying “although somebody is guilty of murder and that person should be tried, but not to burn people’s properties or maiming each others.”

According to her, the two countries share almost everything in term of culture saying her group has been advocating for the rights of people of the two nations and preaching peace for years.

“And what is important between the two countries is to maintain peace and stabilty,” she appealed.
