Two men die of Covid-19

The latest report on the Covid-19 issued by the Ministry of Health has released that two men aged 70 and 61 who were with underlying health condition have died of coronavirus disease.

“2 new COVID-19-related deaths registered and the total number since March 2020, is 160 Decedents (1 posthumous, & 1 on COVID-19 treatment), 61and 70 years old men,1 on COVID-19 treatment was a known hypertensive on admission, 37 new cases registered, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 5,122. 31% of these tested for reasons of travelling, 31% being ill seeking health due to suspicion of COVID-19 and 6% routine respiratory disease surveillance systems. The median age of the new cases (16 female and 21 male) is 40 (range: 4 to 70 years).

“A total of 262 new laboratory test results received (37 from MRCG and 225 from NPHL) of these, 37 new samples tested positive, representing 14.1 % test positivity rate 10 high-risk contacts [of recently confirmed cases] were identified and their follow-up began in earnest. 6 COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from treatment centres, 60 got discharged at least 10 days from the day they tested positive but evaded institutional isolation. 6 COVID-19 patients are currently on oxygen therapy. The country currently has 94 people in hotel quarantine, 276 active cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 3.1%.  COVID-19 vaccination is ongoing as scheduled, with a targeted group of the population,” the ministry said in a report.
