Police on Friday arrested 10 people in Sanyang village, four days after violent protests that saw the youth of Sanyang set the town’s police station on fire.
The stabbing death of 30-year-old Gibril Ceesay in Sanyang last Sunday night sparked protests in the village where police fired teargas at protesters while the army troops were briefly deployed to the village. Though Police did not immediately arrest anyone.
But on Friday, they returned to village and began rounding up those suspected of committing crimes during the protests.
A source said 10 people were arrested on Friday night and ‘lots’ of security forces deployed to Sanyang on Saturday.
Police spokesman Lamin Njie is yet to respond to a request for comment over the arrest.
