Mali to dabble into Road Transport in Gambia to ply Banjul–Bamako route

The Head of Corporate Affair at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has disclosed Malian authorities’ readiness to explore more business avenues such as road transport in The Gambia by plying Banjul – Bamako route to boost The Gambia economy through trade-ties facilitation.

Mr Ousman Bah disclosed this with this medium during a recent interview with in his office in Banjul.

Mr. Bah who was part of officials receiving the Malian delegation to The Gambia said this is one avenue of expanding the country’s road transport, as it is part of the Malian missions to The Gambia.

According to him, the Malian government wants to see buses traveling from Bamako, Mali to Banjul, The Gambia and vice versa so that people can enjoy free trade movement between The Gambia and Mali.

The objective of this, he said, is to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries to improve trade facilitation in the sub region.

Mr. Bah stated also that the  Malian delegate  were in the country to meet The Gambia authorities and different relevant departments  to talk about the possible solution  which connects to the interstate Transit Barriers across the Senegalese  borders.

The Head of Corporate Affairs challenged the Senegalese authority   to put an end to transit barriers and give guarantee for free movement of peoples and goods in our sub-region with consideration that no country can develop in the absence of a vibrant economy.

In this 24 century, he said, no country will succeed when businesses are slow as a result there should be free movement of peoples and goods on a bid to boost the economy.

Commenting on the GRA, 2020 revenue performance Mr. Bah thanked the strong leadership of the GRA. He said GRA management built strong teams around and they are patriotic Gambians that are loyal to the state.

On 2021 revenue sets target of D12.8billion for GRA   to collect for government, he assured that it is achievable considering the kind of hardworking people at GRA who are also very dedicated to their work.
