Police arrest seven for allegedly armed in public

Police have arrested Ebrima Bojang, Abdoulie Jarju, Yankuba Nyang, Salifu Jallow all of whom are Brufut residents into custody after they were arrested for allegedly armed with knives in public, as police beef up security to curb crime rate. They were also found in possession of suspected cannabis.

The Gambia has experience high number of crimes rate since the change of government in 2017 that saw high number of knives stabbing breaking and entering, and burglary.

There is growing concerns among the public about the fragile state of security, as the nation will head to the presidential election in December.

“The suspects have been charged with going armed in public, and also idle and disorderly manners. The matter of the suspected cannabis is transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency for appropriate actions,” police said in a statement.
