The executive of Young Journalists’ Association of Gambia Monday embarked on familiarisation tour to media houses to meet and discuss young journalists’ affairs as regarding their works and welfare.
The tour also seeks to pave way for young journalists across media houses to speak out their plights.
The association announced plan to hold election training for young journalists ahead of 4 December presidential election and media football tournament, national general assembly and national journalism award.
Speaking on their tour to The Voice Newspaper, YJAG President Yankuba Jallow urged for an establishment of Workers Association in media institutions to help strengthen working relationship and assured his executive support to young journalists in the country.
He said the Workers Association will create more unification and internal supports in office and strengthen working relationship.
“As you all know we are in election year, so it’s always important to train journalists on how to report on election because elections are very sensitive [area to report on]. And our role as media practitioners,” Omar Faye, Public Relations Officer said.
Mariama Cham, first vice-president of YJAG said the association is here to accomplish the workload on Gambia Press Union, saying because YJAG cannot go without journalists as well as young journalists cannot go without YJAG.
She called on young pressmen and women to get registered with YJAG and participate in its activities.
She said part of the association’s plans is to help improve professionalism in the media and urged them to speak out their plights with the association.
Landing Sonko, second vice president, both echoed similar remarks during the meeting.
