Lamin Saidykhan, Governor of the North Bank Region has joined in calls for Gambians to get the coronavirus vaccine, as he received his jab.
His call came amid controversy mounting around the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine over blood clot. But the World Health Organization urged nations to go ahead with vaccination and assured that it is safe to take.
“I want to take this opportunity to call on every patriotic Gambian especially those regarded as a high-risk group to help protect themselves, their families and the entire population of The Gambia from this dangerous disease by making themselves available for vaccination,” he said at the regional launch of the covid-19 vaccine in Farafenni.
The Gambia has received the first shipment of 36,000 doses of COVID-19 Vaccines on 2nd March. And Senegal also donated 10, 000 doses of Sino-Pharma vaccine as a solidarity.
Out of the 36,000 doses 4, 500 doses have been allocated to the North Bank Region East to start with the priority groups.
The vaccination has already begun across the country with more than 6, 000 people already inoculated, according to the 288th national situation report dubbed SitRep published 29th March 2021.
