The UNICEF in collaboration with NaNA Tuesday organized a program on sharing experiences on nutritional best practices and impact in addressing malnutrition.
The shared learning on best practices has help nutrition officers, village Support Groups and MUAC to share experiences and challenges in promoting nutritional development. The events were held in Essau and Farafenni Health Directorates in the North Bank Region.
During the program, the Principal Program Officer at National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) underscored their strong partnership with UNICEF in promoting health children and women, citing exclusive breastfeeding, baby friendly community initiative and salt iodize.
The program was jointly organised by Ministry of Health, NANA and UNICEF to review and assess knowledge base of women in monitoring the nutritional uptake of fewer than five children.
Sharing experiences on the daylong review session in Farafenni, Alieu Kujabi spoke on best practices, challenges and way forward on action on the impact in addressing malnutrition.
He noted that the review and shared learning has shown how mothers are vigilant should closely monitor the nutritional status of children.
Abdoulie Jarju of Regional Health Directorate in Farafenni applauded village support groups and mothers for their invaluable support to health sector in promoting health and wellbeing of children and most importantly nutritional development.
He called on mothers to be vigilant to ensure regular visits to health facilities and work to maintain nutrition uptake.
Momodou Lamin Gibba Program Officer Nutrition Unit at National Nutrition Agency in Essau Health Directorate described the skills transfer as important, noting that parents have seen the need to monitor progress.
He disclosed that mothers have the skill to measures using tape to know the nutritional levels of children.
