Eating Healthy Food in Ramadan Is Important to Body

Fasting durng Ramadan can improve one’s health, but only if done in the proper manner. But if done incorrectly, it can cause more harm than good.

Speaking to Peter Mendy, head of department research consultant at Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) has advised everyone especially Muslims fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan to take nutritional food.

In a very simple and acceptable tradition, he recommended that it is good to start iftar with dates and honey, porridge mix with less sugar, natural yoghurt or laban (milk) “these are healthy for our iftar.”

At night, he said, people should not eat heavy meal because it does not digest easily and it’s recommended to eat fish because it can easily digest.

“People should eat fruits and vegetables and reduce oil, sugar and salt and secondly, people need to control their diet by knowing the amount of food to take,” he said.

Despite Ramadan, he said it is important to eat healthy food because it help in weight management and it is also important to manage your weight “because most of this disease are cause by the uncontrolled of diet which can sometimes lead to health diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.”

He emphasized that it is good to control three things in life to avoid health diseases this include sugar, salt and oil while saying it is compulsory that everyone cooking should know the cooking options.

“So let eat healthy food to help do some exercise to help our immune system to fight against disease,” he advised further.
