National Environment Agency (NEA) on Monday handed over a grant prize of D50,000 to the winner of their recent Miss Environment 2021 during a ceremony held at Jama Hall.
“In our bid to strengthen capacity to confront and be active participant in global crusade to preserve and protect our environment, NEA in collaboration with KS Entertainment organized a beauty pageant to sensitize general public issues regarding environment,” Dr Dawda Badjie, deputy executive director of NEA said.
“As Ambassadors of the environment, this initiative will enable the young girls to help in the sensitization crusade in an effort to protect what is remain of our natural resources.”
He said the contestants were really equip with the various themes of environmental protection in the country and gave very brilliant speeches.
As part of agreement signed between KS and NEA the winner will be supported to embark on projects, to do lot of sensitization across the country, he added.
Badjie said that NEA will continue to support and sponsor any activity that is gear towards protecting the environment.
In addition, CEO of KS Entertainment, Kaddy Samateh explained that they came up with idea of Miss Environment Gambia because they want to do something different by changing the narration of beauty pageant industry.
“As an Ambassador I realized the Gambia is going through a lot of environmental challenges and national environment agency been one of the main active body protecting the environment, we deemed it necessary collaborating with them,” she said.
Winner of the miss environment, Ambassador Kaddy Saho commended NEA for the support and the grant prize, noting that “environment is our responsibility therefore we can fix the national environmental issues by coming together as one.”
