Refugee Council in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, has called on President Adama Barrow-led government to quickly hold talks with the coalition of German Christlich-Demokratische and Union and German Centre-Right Political party in the interest of Gambian asylum seekers.
The council’s call comes amid mass deportation of Gambians, sparking public outcry and concerns.
Speaking to The Voice, Yahya Sonko, speaker of the Refugee Council in Baden-Württemberg, said: “I will advise The Gambia government to come to the negotiation table with Baden-Württemberg government as soon as possible for the best interest of Gambia Asylum seekers.”
According to him, a fruitful talk with Baden-Württemberg can bring sanity to the mass deportations between Germany and The Gambia.
“The German government is open for fruitful and reliable talks; the government of The Gambia should be able to come with a clear perspective for the best interest of their citizens in Germany. The coming Baden-Württemberg coalition government goals are, protecting the climate and preserving biodiversity is important for a sustainable future,” he added.
Mr Sonko described Baden-Württemberg move as “good news” reiterating that “I am calling on the Barrow-led Government to take advantage of this and restart positive, transparency and fruitful negotiations with this coming Government in Baden-Württemberg.”
He urged technocrats of the Gambia government “to design reliable policies and programmes” to be able to negotiate in the best interest of both countries.
He also urged Gambian migrants to be law abiding and respect rules and regulations in Germany, adding “do not go near any drug or criminal activities.”
In a memo shared with The Voice shows The CDU boss Armin Laschet emphasizing that: “combining this with the preservation of industrial jobs and participating in the transformation of the automotive industry offers the opportunity for innovation and can shape the whole of Germany.”
