Fortune have continued their race in GFF Division One League after playing 13 games unbeaten, earning them gained better of Gambia Armed Forces at the independent stadium.
Fans electrified the stadium as they cheered their teams in the top table class game amid the Ramadan.
The soldiers started the game brightly that could have earned them to secure an early goal through Saikouba Ceesay’s clear shot, but Fortune’s defender Samboujang Touray quickly dismissed the top strikers shot just at the edge on the goal line as fans jubilate.
Moments later, the petroleum boys began to gain upper hand in the game as they crowded to destroy the soldiers but the army defensively resisted any humiliation.
Twelve minutes later, soldier Lasana Jarju got penalized with a yellow card after recklessly tackling Fortune’s center forward Ebrima Camara.
Meanwhile, both sides resumed the second squarely. Fortune however broke deadlock in the 61 minutes when Salifu Saho capitalized on GAF’S poor defending as they failed to clear their lines and Saho find the top hand corner, clever finished and one nil to Fortune.
From then on GAF tried harder to equalize but Fortune solid defense remained impenetrable.
The smiles from the Fortune’s officials and the joy from their players after the referee’s final whistle say it all. As after thirteen games is the only side yet to taste a defeat and is on top with 29 points and GAF 22. They are now closer than ever to their first ever first division title.
