Saaba launches road safety project

Saaba Minianba Association has launched a road safety project that seeks to help protect lives and properties of the people.

Saaba Minianba is an association operating both locally and internationally.

The project comes following a fatal accident that claimed lives of 4 people and the project provided 100 reflector jackets to donkeys and horse carts and also to motorcyclists.

Speaking at the launching, Alfusainey Drammeh, chairman Saaba Minianba Association said the project aimed at promoting development needs of the community and its environs.

“The support by the diaspora community to the development contributes immensely in improving lives and livelihood. The road safety project aimed to help the inhabitants to value personal safety and protection,” he said.

With this project four traffic signboards were installed, the reflectors including minimum speed and whilst members will engage National Road Authority to construct road humps to minimize accidents, he added.

Lamin Saidykhan, governor of North Bank Region thanked the association for the foresight, adding that “less than one year 8 people died as a result if fatal deaths along Kerewan to Farafenni highway.”

“[The] road safety program is keys in government efforts in protecting lives and noted that his office recognised the enormous contribution by the community association in complementing government efforts in minimizing road accidents,” he said.

Mr Saidykhan quickly called on the people to make best use of the reflector stickers and jackets at all times while launching passionate appeal to drivers to comply with traffic signs and regulations.

Malamin IL Bojang, chairman of the Association said the support council efforts and noted road safety project would enhance protection and security.

Representing the village head, Langjanteh Sighateh called on National Road Authority to construct road humps along the highway to reduce accident.

Bafodayba Sighateh, PRO said the road safety project was highly appreciated.
