The West African Examination Council has awarded six outstanding Gambian students who performed best in the 2019 Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination and West African Secondary School Certificate Examination.
The award ceremony was held at WAEC’s National Office in Banjul.
The ceremony brought together top government officials including Honorable Claudiana Cole, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, educationists, parents and awardees.
Speaking at the ceremony in Banjul, Honorable Claudiana A. Cole, Minister for Basic and Secondary Education reassured the gathering of the Gambia government’s commitment to continue to fulfill its part to the council through logistic and human capacity support and to ensure the smooth conduct of free examinations in the Country.
Meanwhile, Mr. Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Sectary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education who also doubled as the Chairperson of the Gambia National Committee, commended the awardees, their teachers, schools and parents for making the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education proud.
The six candidates were awarded with certificates and cash prizes from the Upper and Senior School levels in recognition of their dedication, hard work and urge for excellence.
They included Muhammed M Touray –Best Candidate, Nusrat Senior Secondary School (WASSCE), Edrisa Fatty – 2nd Best Candidate, Nusrat Senior Secondary School (WASSCE), Ousman Gaye – 3rd Best Candidate, Nusrat Senior Secondary School (WASSCE), Umar Kamara – Best Candidate, SOS Lower and Upper Basic School (GABECE), Daniel N. Osuoho – 2nd Best candidate, St. Peters Senior Secondary School (GABECE), Ebrima Gajaga – 3rd Best Candidate, Presentation of Merry Basic Cycle School (GABECE).
