The leader of the United Democratic Party, lawyer Ousainu Darboe, has called for unity, humility and tolerance in his Eid message.
“Fellow Gambians and my Muslim brothers and sisters, we have come to the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan which marks the final period of our daily fasting from dawn to sunset for all Muslims around the world as an obligatory Fard as prescribed in the Holy Quran.
“During the past Holy Month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world are encouraged and expected during Fasting, to be extra generous; kind and forgiving and to humble themselves reminding oneself of those who are less fortunate and unable to have decent food to eat.
“I continue to reiterate that even as we come to the end of this Holy Month that we must emulate qualities of humility, respect and tolerance; to embrace forgiveness towards Humankind and continue on with our generosity of sharing and caring. This is the time for continued unity; unity of purpose; unity of sharing; unity of compassion, peace and love and unity of oneness in the eyes of Allah,” he said.
“On the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, I invite us all to continue with these virtues to visit one another especially the sick, less abled and the elderly and to share amongst each other the abundance of blessings we have thus received with those less fortunate than us. On behalf of the entire Executive and Members of the United Democratic Party, I wish us all a Blessed Eid Al-Fitr. Happy Koriteh to you and your family. May Allah (SWT) accept our prayers and our fasting and forgive us our sins. God bless you all,” he concluded.
