Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of Gambia Moral Congress, has promised an everlasting breakfasts meeting with the media, as he held debut breakfast programme with media editors at his home in Kotu.
The event was aimed to discuss with the media about The Gambia’s way forward, which seeks to proffer meaningful solutions to the issues facing the country’s progress.
“This is the beginning and it’s going to be a continuous process from now down to State House and beyond. We are going to have regular sessions with the Editors because you set the news and that is why it is important to have this interface between you and us,” he told journalists at the event.
He praised the media for playing a “significant role” in the country and for them in the political field, saying they cannot function without the media and no society can function with media.
“Sometimes is good for such things to come at a right time because no one is perfect. The press is not an enemy because they are important for the state. We are against all laws that inhibit your practice,” the former interior minister told journalsits.
Mr Fatty continued: “For a government that cares about prosperity and development or a political leader, they most have the media on the right side. We can develop a relationship in the interest of national development and we want media to do their job because without them we cannot even consolidate our democracy.”
