Accused charged for robbery with violence pleaded not guilty in court

An accused charged for four counts of offence has pleaded not guilty to any of the offence when he appeared before Magistrate I Janneh of the Kanifing Magistrate Court on Monday.

The accused person, Muhammed Camara alias Topsater was charged, as per the statement of the offence, for conspiracy, robbery with violence, assault causing bodily harm and breaking and stealing all contrary to the criminal laws of The Gambia.

According to the narration of his offence, count one states that Mustapha Camara Alias Topsater, Omar Jeng, Omar Jallow and Zoo Lion on or about the 11th of August 2020 at Kotu Kanifing Municipality of The Gambia within the jurisdiction of the honorable court did conspired among themselves to violently robbed one Derick John Greening and forcefully took away his D21,000 (Twenty-one thousand dalasis), medium flat screen television and computer.

On count 2 of his particular of offence,  Muhammed Alias Tospater, on or about the 11th August 2020 at Kotu Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of the Gambia within the Jurisdiction of the honorable court,  broke into the house of Derick John Greening, tied him up, stabbed him repeatedly and forcefully took away his D21,000 (Twenty-one thousand dalasi), medium flat screen television and computer.

On count 3 of the offence, he on or about the 11th day of August 2020 at Kotu Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of the Gambia he together unlawfully assaulted Derick John Greening, in his house by repeatedly stabbed him on his body  causing injury to his body thereby committed an offence, while the count number 4 stated that he, Muhammed Camara Alias Topsater, on or about  the 11th August 2020 at Kotu Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of the Gambia break into the house of Derick John Greening, tied him up, stabbed him repeatedly and forcefully took away his twenty one thousand (D21,000) medium flat screen television and computer, thereby committed an offence.

Taking his plea, he pleaded not guilty of any of the offences pressed against.

Police prosecutor has noted the implication of the count 2 of the offence which the sentence can attracts life imprisonment if the accused is guilty of the offence, while the case might be transferred to High Court by the Magistrate.
