Magistrate Court grants D25, 000 bail bond to man on charges of going armed in public

Magistrate Mam Samba Jallow of Kanifing magistrates’ court on Wednesday granted a bail bond of 25,000 dalasis to Gibril Njie who has been charged with going armed in public.

The accused is requested to also present two sureties with a valid Gambian ID cards and a telephone number to the court.

According to the particular of offence, Gibril Njie on or about the 22nd day of May 2021, at Kololi, in the Kanifing municipality of the Republic of the Gambia, adding that Gibril was found armed with knife and cutlass in public, in a manner causing threats to the public and thereby committed an offence.
When the particular of offence was read to the accuse person. He denied the charges.

In his defence, Gibril Njie told the court that the car that he was driven was given to him by his friend.

He added that on his way going home he met with the police and he was arrested and the police found knife and cutlass in the car, “I didn’t know how the Knife and cutlass gets into the car he said.” The case is adjured until Tuesday 1st June 2021 at 11:00 am for hearing.
