Woman cannabis sativa courier case proceeded but transferred to High Court

The case of Fatou Fatty, an accused charged for being in possession of control drugs, Monday continued as she appeared before the Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Isatou Janneh.

Fatou Fatty, according to particular of her offence, on the 10th November 2020 was found in possession of 18kg, 300mg of cannabis sativa at Latrikunda German in the kanifing Municipality, a prohibited drug, without a valid license an offence contrary to the Law of The Gambia.

When the witness, Sanna Manneh, who is also a Prison Officer was called, he confirmed knowing the accused person as he recalled the event of the 0th of November 2020.

He said the accused person came to visit one Alpha Jallow, a remind prisoner at Mile 2 prison, during her visiting, she was talking with Alpha Jallow and “in their conversation I suspected they were about to do something, so I allowed them to continue their conversation,” he said.

He went on that after their discussion and meeting was up, he announced to the accused person and the prisoner that ‘it’s time’ then the accused person went to the visiting room and then to the veranda.

He said that it was that time he (the witness) told the accused person to live, but the accused person (Fatou Fatty) told him she wanted to meet the prisoner, Alpha Jallow. But he (witness) told her again that, it is time but the accused person refused to go “that was the time I told the escort to take Alpha to the prison because it’s time.”

The witness stated that at that moment she (accused person) rushed to hug Alpha and it was in that process the accused person removed a plastic bag and gave it to Alpha (remind prisoner). He said when Alpha received the plastic bag he put it inside his own pocket.

He explained further that, it was that time he asked the accused person if she is done and the accused person said she is done. He disclosed that then he told the escort to take Alpha back to the sitting room.

According to him, he said he asked Alpha what the accused person gave him, and in replied, he said Alpha put his hand in his pocket and removed the plastic bag and “I opened it” and realized  that it’s a cannabis sativa, immediately, he said he told the escort and Alpha to wait for him.

The witness stated, it was that moment he called the accused person back and when she came he took her to the screening office. He added that it was that time that called his boss.

“In the presence of my boss I asked the accused person about what he gave Alpha and she said she didn’t give anything to Alpha. He said it was that juncture he brought out the plastic bag and showed it to her, while she accepted it.

The accused person said someone gave her the cannabis sativa to deliver it to Alpha, remind prisoner. The witness said he was then asked to escort the accused person to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency office where he (witness) when gave a statement and filled the 24hours daily report.

However, the Magistrate has transferred to High Court for continuation.
