President Adama Barrow has travelled to Guinea Conakry on a three days State visit, according to State House.
“President Barrow will leave Banjul International Airport (today) Thursday, the 3rd June, 2021. “The Gambian leader and his host, His Excellency Professor, Alpha Conde, will have a tete–a-tete, followed by a bilateral meeting between officials of the two countries.
“President Barrow will also conduct visits to important sites in Guinea. The visit will accord President Barrow an opportunity to meet with Gambians in Guinea.
“President Conde was among the regional leaders of ECOWAS who played a significant role during the political impasse following the 2016 Presidential elections in The Gambia. Thus, the visit will reinforce the ties between the two governments and the strong bond shared by Gambians and Guineans,” State House said in a statement.
Meanwhile, “as a government, the political will is 100 per cent, that we conduct free and fair elections,” President Barrow said in a statement posted by State House. “Africa and the entire world are looking up to The Gambia and 2021 is a very important year for this country,” the statement added.
He therefore urged Gambians to get registered and make their voices heard in the upcoming election, which is viewed by political scientists and analysts to be tough in the election history of the country.
“Get registered and vote. I urge all citizens to register to vote in the next elections as the country begins voter registration, which is an important part of the electoral process,” he said.
President Barrow is seeking a second five-year term in office, after he defeated the 22-year ruler Yahya Jammeh in the 2016 election which was marred with political impasse after Jammeh abruptly changed his mind, citing irregularities in the election.
Mr Barrow is expected to face more than a dozen of political leaders in the December presidential election.
