Alkalo of Tanji has called on Youths of Tanji to come out in their large numbers to register and get their voter’s card.

Chorna Bojang, Alkalo of Tanji said  the voter registration which started on the 29th May, 2021 is witnessing good turnout in the community saying within 29th May and 5th June, 2021 the officials in the area were able to registered 1,600 people.

He emphasized that “we are expecting the youths to come out with full force to register.”

Among other complaints of the people in the area as pointed out by the Alkalo is that people are spending lots of time queuing to get register.

The Tanji Alkalo affirmed that Gambians are the only ones registered and no record of registered foreigners in the area so far, while he noted that the challenged they are facing like some other places is that it is only one machine available for the process.

He therefore appealed to IEC if possible to provide additional machines to enhance the work.

In the area, the Alkalo said they are expecting to have 10,000 people registered and get their voter’s cards this year “but people are still not coming out in their numbers, yet.”

He noted that any mistake made is been rectified immediately as no man is perfect and the mistakes that can occur during the process, as he identified can be spelling of names.

Lamin Bojang, said the turnout is very good because lot of people come here to registered already, saying time given to them by the IEC is small. He disclosed that in the past the area used to register 5000 voters but this year they are expecting to have 10,000 voters register.

“Sometimes in a day we register two hundred to three hundred people and they are all Gambians,” he disclosed.

Arfang Jareh Saidy who said he’s the assistance to the Alkalo and the UDP appointed representative to inspect the process of the registration and to keep an eye on non-Gambians that might want to come to register said people are coming out for the registration. He noted that the first day of the registration 130 people were registered.

However, he said in the first day of the commencement of the exercise they sent back seven foreigners which some of them are from Guinea and Senegal.

He declared that the so far they are registering only people that already attained the age of 18 and above. But quickly added to it that they can also register anyone who will turn 18 years before the Election Day, this was according to the orientation and information from the IEC that if a person is yet to clock 18 years and such person will before the Election Day can be registered.
