Cash grant for Women Kafos in NBR

At least 20 (twenty) women Kafos operating under the Gambia Chicken Farmers Association recently received a cash grant amounting to D500,000.00 (five hundred thousand dalasi).

The money was meant the twenty women KAFos to kick- start entrepreneurial business in their home villages. This benevolent gesture project was supported by The Gambia Future Now.

Speaking to members of press after the presentation of the cash to the beneficiary at the event held in Kerewan, former National Assembly Member for Saba Sajal Honorable Ousman Bah, doubles as the National Coordinator, explained that The Gambia Future Now has been doing series of development activities in North Bank Region .

He said the objective of the grant gears toward complimenting government efforts in providing support to the vulnerable and women Kafos within the communities.

According to Mr. Bah  the latest activity of this project by providing cash amounting to half a million dalasi  to support twenty women Kafos in North Bank region will help the women to become self –reliance  and liberal in a bid to boost the region’s economy and encourage local home grown products such as rearing of chickens.

Honorable Bah disclosed that The Gambia Chicken Farmers Association is basically engaging in doing poultry management, which is what has motivated The Gambia Future Now to support the project in a bid to improve the life and livelihood of the farmers particularly the women Kafos in North Bank Region.

He noted that the women kafos each receive cash amount of D25,000.00  to kick-start their business and this support is a revolving which at the end of 2 months each Women Kafo should be able to give to another group that do not benefit from the first distribution.

He emphasized that it is a pilot project which they are expecting proper management to be adopted so that other group can also benefit from the Project.

Honorable Bah disclosed that The Gambia Future Now project has many plans to support the women of this country. He therefore praised the women for their hard works, determination and perseverance to engage in chicken production, while made it clear that the target of The Gambia Future Now is to, before end of December 2021, support 100 groups in chicken production.

The deputy governor of North Bank Region also made remarks at the presentation. He commended the donors for the benevolent gesture, saying it will go a long way in alleviating poverty reduction and help the women to engage more in productivity business.
