Retired General Lamin Bojang, Leader of the Alliance for National Reorientation and Development party, in an exclusive with this reporter at his residence in Brufut, has said empowerment of women is keys in national development, while promised to empower women when he is elected into office.
According to him “empowerment of women is key in national development”, but how will women be empowered in this country is a question that ANRD wants to answer.
He stated that his party want to answer this question because they don’t have to fool people as politicians instead they have to say the truth, they have to be seen doing right thing and “seeing doing the right thing is what is also missing”.
“We have identified the problems and we know that women are being maginalized, as far as political activities in this country are concerned.” Adding that, women are given the back seat and this is what they don’t want, but now want to be in solidarity as they stand shoulder to shoulder with the men leading as far as politics is concern.
According to general Bojang ”women are being dispositional and all what women are told as far as politics in this country is concerned is that they are to prepare the ground, dance and do those kind of things. But when it comes to responsibilities for them to contribute meaningfully in the development of this country, they are given the back seat and that is what we have realize and are here to eradicate”.
Bojang stressed that When it comes to social development women realize their responsibilities, but in national responsibilities and development in this country women are not being giving that desired positions they supposed to hold.
He promised that when he comes into office women will be empowered.
While speaking he argued that women need to be encouraged and it is the government that has that machinery, and resources for women to be lifted, their responsibility in the society and in the development of the nation.
General Bojang added that every political leader in this country is with assumption or believe that the followers will vote him or her into office come Decembe 4, 2021.
Bojang said that ”Alliance for National Reorientation and Development is a party that is meant for Gambia and Gambian people, and People who are following us are Gambians and we are a party that is the power house, as far as politics in this country is concerned”.
Saying ”when we say power house you say UDP, NPP, APRC is there, what we are saying is that it depends on the person on the lead.”
But, he quickly added, ANRD, the caliber of people it is having are the people that are in The Gambia from Kartong to Koina and they are the people who are going to make president on 4th December, 2021
