North Bank Region’s Sustainable Land Management Committee has completed a monitoring visit to Food Agricultural Organization Community-Based Dryland Forest intervention at Samba Njabeh Lower Basic School in Lower Nuimi.
Sarjo S Drammeh, head teacher Samba Njabeh Lower Basic School underscored the important of promoting environmental education in school, noting that it would help students to learn the important on protection, regeneration and preservation of trees.
He used the moment to appeal for provision of borehole and fencing of the school to boost security.
Faraba Joof Principal Education Officer at Region 3 thanks the school for their efforts in exposing students on environmental education and vegetable production.
He said that all communities should provide land ownership documents for the school for future development and expansion.
Buba Sanneh President of Barra Palodi Forest Association said there is need for communities to have woodlots and community forest,” he said, and called on the community’s to be vigilant to protect their forest covers from bushfires and illegal logging.
Alagie Jawara, Regional Community Development Officer emphasized the need for capacity development of forest and garden committees to promote good governance, record keeping, management of funds, networking and leadership qualities.
He stressed the need for National Environment Agency to work with Ward Development Committee in Farafenni and Kerewan Area Council to address indiscriminate dumping of waste in Farafenni.
Ousman Jawo of Department of Water Resources calls on the forest committee to jealously guide the forest and trees that are planted at community level.

The chairman of Bakindick Community Forest Management Committee Fakebba Jammeh thanks the community of Bakindick for their support to the protection of the forest from illegal activities.
He disclosed that plan is in place to plant 1000 mahogany trees once the construction work of Hakalang road is complete, as the move aimed to replace trees affected during construction.
However, the committee lauded their participation in 2021 trade fair by showcasing honey harvested from the forest.
