Gambia vaccinates 30,515 people against coronavirus

Health authorities have said 30,515 people were already vaccinated against coronavirus since the country started its Covid-19 immunisation process. The Gambia has a population of about 2 million people.

“As of 4th June, 30,515 and 7,914 people received the 1st and 2nd doses of AstraZeneca vaccine respectively, bringing the total number ever vaccinated to 38,429.

“So far 5,713(104 New) Rapid diagnostic tests were conducted at the Airport for travellers as of 7th June 2021.  Of these, only 2 tested positive for both RDT and PCR. These were treated and discharged. As of 20th May 2021, 82 new clients received Psychological First Aid (PFA) Services provided by MoH, Department of Social Welfare (DSW) and Paradise Foundation, thus bringing the number of attended to 1,829 since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Ministry of Health has said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry added: “No new COVID-19-related death was registered, bringing the total number of deaths since March 2020 to 180. No new cases were registered taking the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to 6008.

“A total of 186 new laboratory test results were received (12 from MRCG and 174 from NPHL).  Of these, none tested positive representing a 0% test positivity rate. No new COVID-19 patient newly discharged from treatment centres, while 5 got discharged at least 10 days from the day they tested positive but evaded institutional isolation. Two (2) COVID-19 patients are currently on oxygen therapy. No new contacts have been traced and monitored. Currently there is no one in hotel quarantine, 15 active cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 3%.”

“One (1) case with comorbidity of Tuberculosis (TB) absconded from one of COVID-19 treatment sites. One (1) COVID-19 patient is currently on oxygen therapy Five (5) new Contacts have been traced and are being monitored. Currently there is no one in hotel quarantine, 14 active cases and a crude case-fatality ratio of 3%.

As of 10th June, 2021, 30,688 and 9,861 people received the 1st and 2nd doses of AstraZeneca vaccine respectively, bringing the total number ever vaccinated to 40,549. So far 6,011 (298 New) Rapid diagnostic tests were conducted at the Airport for travellers as of 10th June 2021 of these, only 2 tested positive for both RDT and PCR. These were treated and discharged.”
