National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) with support from the government D10million disaster respond, on Wednesday presented building materials which include mattresses, rice, sugar and nails to 115 households who had suffered from the 2020 disasters.
The support went to the victim families of 2020 disasters in Lower, Central and part of Upper Badibou.
The presentation was presided over by Governor Lamin Saidykhan in Kerewan North Bank Region.
Lamin Saidy Regional Disaster Management Coordinator for NBR has underscored the government commitment through National Disaster Management Agency in mobilization of resources to respond to the plight of disaster families.
He disclosed that the allocation of D10 million to NDMA and other respond, citing cash transfers had help many families to mitigate households food needs.
He said the distribution of food and non-food items would strengthen families resilient to disasters. NBR Disaster Management Coordinator uses the moment to thank ward councillors, chiefs, Regional Disaster Management Committee and Red Cross Volunteers for their support during rapid assessment exercises and providing humanitarian assistance to families.
Governor Lamin Saidykhan thanked government for the humanitarian gesture, noting that provision of building materials in addition to food item, would obviously better prepare farmers to concentrate on farming.
Governor Saidykhan hailed NDMA efforts in working with decentralized structures to generate data and calls on the beneficiaries to ensure proper utilisation of support to mitigate effects of disasters.
NBR Governor used the moment to call for more support from development partners to strengthen the capacity of Disaster Committee to provide emergency humanitarian assistance. Horja Saho alkalo of Kerr Ngarta of Central Badibou thanks NDMA and government for the support to affected families.
The alkalo recieved corrugated iron sheets, ‘palms rhund’ , rice, nails and mattresses. She said the materials received would help in recovery and security.
Sambou Njie ward councillor Noo Kunda ward thanked NDMA for the humanitarian respond to disaster families and it demonstrated government commitment to the welfare of disaster victims.
