UDP Leader Gets Voter’s Card; Calls On All Gambians to Get Registered

The former Vice President, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, leader of United Democratic Party (UDP) has joined the teeming number of Gambians who acquired their voter’s cards in anticipation to participate in the nation’s forthcoming elections beginning with Presidential election slated for December 4, 2021.

Lawyer Darboe who got registered at Fajara on Wednesday, 16th June, 2021 made a clarion call on Gambians especially the youths to come out and get registered, noting that this is an opportunity availed to every Gambia to vote for his or her candidate of choice in both the Presidential, National Assembly and Local Government elections.

“This is an honoured civil responsibility which every Gambian of age and mentally fit to partake. It is through this process that we place ourselves in a position to elect our representatives both at the presidential, national assembly and local government levels,” Darboe disclosed to the press shortly after acquiring his voter’s card.

He added: “It is very important process and i want to encourage every Gambian to be registered.”

Lawyer Darboe continued to call on Gambian youths to turn out massively and get their voters cards, adding that it is the youths whose faith are at stake and is only through the acquiring the voter’s card that they can participate to elect a leader of their choice.

Dilating on the overall voter registration process, UDP leader disclosed that the party officials has just concluded a ten days tour of the country to assess the process, adding that though there are hiccups here and there but as for now UDP is satisfy with the process.

“UDP has always been advocating for the maintenance of peace at all period not just during election periods. We have always said that since 1996, we have always advised our supporters to be law abiding to ensure they did not get involved in anything that maybe violent,” Darboe responded to the need to continue maintaining peace during this trying times.

He added: “Thank God, during the era of Jammeh allegations were made against us, we were prosecuted and found not guilty, that shows that we are very law abiding people. I have been telling Gambians people particularly UDP supporters that they must be people who respect the law in very absolute terms.”

He said the fact that majority of Gambian Lawmakers are UDP members it is incumbent upon its supporters to always be law abiding, adding that it will be erroneous for UDP Lawmakers to make the laws and its supporters become law breakers.

“At every rally my concluding remarks are always let us maintain the peace and stability of this country. This so dear to us and we must not do anything that will put this country into chaos,” Darboe disclosed.
