PIA rolls-out training on skill works for out of school women, girls in Kerewan

President International Award has rolled out training opportunity for out of school women and girls in Kerewan, North Bank Region to learn tailoring and hair dressing works.

The trainees thanked the Ministry of Youths and Sports for rolling out  and extending the skills training packages for youths and women at the regional level.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper, Binta Hydara, Nama Keita and Firmen Mendy Instructor’s for tailoring and hair dressing expressed their delight over the level of commitment shown by the trainees.

The instructors said the duration on tailoring is two years and hair dressing and salon operation is one year. Each of the classes enrolled 11 students for the general certificate course in tailoring and salon operations.

However, the President International Award has mobilized necessary materials, machines, equipment and tools to facilitate smooth operations of the program. They used the moment to thank the development partners, philanthropists and government.

Bintou Ceesay said lack of skills have affected the development of young ladies and girls in the society, while noted that the training will contribute to the transformation of the lives of young ladies and married women if they make best use of the opportunity.

According to the decentralization of skills training for out of women and girls dropouts would bridge the capacity gaps, noting all the twenty-two that are undergoing training has never acquire basic skills on tailoring and hair dressing.

The trainees used the moment to call for more support before the end of graduation in the form of estblishment packages that will help them to kick-start their businesses.

They said Kerewan currently doesn’t have a standard saloon and women tailoring workshop, and noted that the opportunity provided by PIA will make big difference on the lives of young women and girls.
