National Assembly members for Jokadu and Jarra Central yesterday bashed Mamma Kandeh, leader of an opposition party, Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) for dismissing them from the party.
Though, the duo politicians have described the expulsion as a welcome move.
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly, Honorable Salifu Jawo told reporters that “This expulsion from his (Mamma Kandeh) party is not a surprise to us. We were expecting it at any time so is a welcome move. We have welcomed it and we are very happy.”
“So, I am telling him that this 2021 (presidential) election Mamma Kandeh is going to see fire. He’s not going out or anywhere. I can attest to that and the results will proof that.”
He described the GDC leader as a dictator saying “Of course, Mamma Kandeh is a dictator I can tell you that he is a dictator because he is the only one who is everything. He has his own agenda and his own idea. He is not taking anybody’s advice.”
According to Mr Jawo, their problem with their former boss, Mamma Kandeh, started when they (GDC lawmakers) supported a bill that exempts sitting National Assembly members from losing their seats after dismissal by their parties.
“And the second was the draft constitution, we also against it because of national interest. There were so many hidden things in that draft. We didn’t support it and he (Mamma Kandeh) wanted us to support that bill and then we said over our dead bodies we are not going to do it,” he added.
He continued that “Today we are the supporters of President Adama Barrow and his agenda 100% we are going to support him (President Adama Barrow) and he (Mamma Kandeh) cannot do anything about that. And what I want to tell him is that this is a big blow to his party because he brought five seats to this parliament and now, he is left with only two, three have gone so that is a disaster to his party.”
Meanwhile, Honorable Kebba Jallow National Assembly member for Jarra central said: “I am free now to join any party but purposely as far as we are accused of being supporting Adama Barrow’s Agenda, I will help Adama Barrow to develop the country as Gambians expect.”
“Honorable Salifu and I will support the president’s agenda 100%. The party accused us of not adhering to their objectives the objectives therefore to my own view are not vital. As the fifth members in parliament, we eradicated this section from the 1997 constitution to liberate us to stand independently,” he said.
