The Minister for Agriculture, Honorable Amie Fabureh recently visited the National Federation of Gambian Women office in Sukuta.
Her visit to the federation office was meant to have firsthand information and see possibility of supporting the women.
Giving overview of the centre Mary Dacosta the interim president of the Federation highlighted some of the successes and challenges in the centre. She said the centre has over 500,000 memberships comprising of women from various businesses.
Among some of the challenges facing the Women Federation, as she explained is that the place is a landlocked area and during the rainy season it becomes difficult to use the place. The water and electricity she went on are also among the challenges at the centre.
The interim president of the Federation applauded the support of FASDEP project under the Ministry of Agriculture for supporting the centre.
Ms Dacosta called on the women groups and individual members to renew their subscriptions. She pointed out that the federation is looking forward to hold general assembly to elect new leadership. According to her, the centre has many facilities that are not in good shape, the conference hall and the groundnut-oil machine among other things.
Assuring the National Federation of Gambian Women, Honorable Amie Fabureh expressed her Ministry’s readiness to continue supporting the centre. She said together with her team, the Ministry would continue knocking more doors for possible support for the centre.
The Minister was accompanied to the Women Federation Centre by two of her deputy permanent secretaries – Fatou Jammeh-Touray and Bintou Gassama-Jammeh.
